Overview of KSA

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, KSA, is the largest country of the Arabian Peninsula covering approximately 2,150,000 square kilometers with an estimated population of 28 million. It is bordered by Jordan and Iraq on the north , Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and the Persian Gulf on the east, Oman and Yemen on the south, and the Red Sea to the west.

Riyadh is the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia. As the nation's legislative, financial administrative, diplomatic and commercial center, Riyadh is home to a population of approximately 4.3 million people as well as foreign embassies, universities, banks and the SRCA corporate headquarters. The city is located in the center of the Kingdom, and is affectionately called "The Desert Pearl"; although, its actual name, "Riyadh" is derived from the Arabic word for "garden." This vibrant globalized environment features world class architecture, shopping, restaurants and cultural sites, coexisting comfortably alongside historical sites, nature reserves and all the elements of an old Arab city. This diversity makes Riyadh a unique and exciting place to live providing foreign residents with a multitude of new experiences and memorable moments.

If this is the first time you have considered working abroad, the prospect of leaving friends, family and all that is familiar is a daunting one. Riyadh is home to many expatriates from England, France, Germany, Australia, South Africa, the U.S, etc., who are also missing home. These large numbers of foreigners regularly organize activities and social events and always welcome newcomers. Whatever your passion; horseback riding, desert hikes, camping trips, cooking classes, dive trips, acting classes, painting classes, etc there is a group for you. These large Expat communities provide lots of opportunities to learn about other cultures, try new things, and form lasting friendships with people from all over the world.

While adjusting to your new life as an expat may be challenging, you will find that the overall lifestyle in Saudi Arabia is much slower and more relaxed than at home. With the generous salaries and the relatively low cost of living, most expatriates working in the Kingdom find they enjoy a much higher "quality of life" than in their home country.

With convenient transportation, well-stocked super-markets that carry fresh and prepared foods from around the world, international shopping and cuisine, international schools which offer excellent educational opportunities, inexpensive domestic help, and an extremely low crime rate, the kingdom is a unique blend of modern and traditional making it a great place to live and raise a family.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an amazing country with a rich history of religion and culture. Unlike other parts of the world, residents and visitors alike must adhere to certain cultural expectations. For expatriates this means dressing conservatively in public, abstaining from alcohol and pork, and respecting the Islamic principles and laws.
